Experienced Engineer and Business Leader Sayan Biswas, PhD
An entrepreneur and business strategist with deep engineering roots, Sayan Biswas, PhD, brings firsthand experience shaping science and technology policy at the highest levels — having served as a fellow with the United States Department of Energy in Washington, DC. His responsibilities as a fellow in the Department of Energy’s Office of Technology Commercialization involved taking innovative, federally funded developments from the lab to market, a process that entailed commercialization strategies, market and policy analysis, and communication with national laboratories, investors, and external stakeholders. Sayan Biswas, PhD, led and supported a range of high-impact initiatives during his tenure with the Department of Energy.
Sayan balanced his work as a science and technology policy fellow with his role as a university educator and researcher. His achievements as a teacher ranged from mentoring graduate students, doctoral candidates, and post-doctoral researchers to founding and leading a federally and state-funded academic research laboratory with more than $6 million in funding from the state, NASA, the Department of Energy, and the Department of Defense.
Sayan Biswas received his mechanical engineering degree from the University of Connecticut. While pursuing his doctorate in aerospace engineering from Purdue University, he earned numerous academic honors, including the Combustion Art Special Recognition Award and a Dean’s Summer Research Fellowship. His professional affiliations include the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics, and the Society of Automotive Engineers.
